M. S. Banga Conferred With Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal

Mr. Banga is a distinguished alumnus of two premier institutions of the country. He was Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s gold medalist in mechanical engineering in 1975. He then joined Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, where too he won the gold medal in the class of 1977.
Mr. Banga joined HLL as a Management Trainee in 1977. Between August 1995 and end 1998, he was Executive Director and Head of the Soaps & Detergents business – HLL’s largest business division, and also Unilever’s single largest Soaps & Detergents business. In addition, he led HLL’s initiative into mass market foods. In December 1998, he moved to the Unilever Head Office in London as Senior Vice President responsible for the Hair & Oral Care Categories.
In May 2000, he was appointed Chairman of HLL and subsequently given charge of Unilever’s operations in the South Asian region.
