Fair & Lovely Foundation gives scholarships to 225 deserving girls

21-03-2013: In its 10th year, Fair & Lovely Foundation continues its endeavour of empowering women through education

Fair & Lovely Foundation since inception in 2003; has played an integral role in changing the lives of more than 1500 girls, giving them wings to achieve their dreams by empowering them through education and career development. Through these scholarships, Fair & Lovely opens doors of hope for girls across the country to pursue their dreams.

On 21st March, 2013 at a packed 10 year gala ceremony  at the Y. B Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai , 225 girls, from financially underprivileged backgrounds showcasing brilliance in academics and a burning desire to strike big in life; were awarded the Fair & Lovely Foundation 2012 scholarships to pursue higher education.

The Fair & Lovely Foundation Felicitation ceremony was supported by renowned personalities from various backgrounds: Bollywood Actress Asin, Filmmaker R. Balki, Fashion Designer, Shaina NC and Padma Shri Ms. Lila Poonawala. These eminent icons spoke about their journey to success and lent their support and guidance to the torch bearers of tomorrow

Transforming Lives through Education

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Arun Srinivas, Vice President, Skincare, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. said, “We at Fair & Lovely Foundation believe that educating girls would be the single best investment one can make to build a better society. Through the Fair & Lovely Foundation, we are working towards providing young women the means to avail higher education, so they can build themselves as assets to the nation. I’m happy to see that our work and effort in the direction of women empowerment is being appreciated and supported. In 10 glorious years, we have touched the lives of many such young women who have set out on a journey to transform their lives”.

The Fair & Lovely Foundation Scholarship helps academically brilliant girls from the lowest economic strata of the society fulfill their dreams of higher education. These young achievers are supported with course fees, accommodation, local travel, books and stationery costs, depending upon their needs.

One of the 2012 scholarship winners, Sajneeben whose father cuts and polishes precious gems has to support a family of five on his meagre earnings. While her mother, a housewife, tries her best to give her children the best of all worlds but the family income is insufficient to support their three children. Sajnee who is studying hard to pursue her studies in her chosen field of Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery says, “With the scholarship amount that I’ve received from the Fair & Lovely Foundation, I’m confident that I’ll be able to overcome my financial challenges and build a great career”.

With its tenth year of awarding scholarships, the Fair and Lovely Foundation has now helped more than 1500 young girls access a brighter future. The Fair & Lovely Foundation continues to contribute to the area of female education in the country. Deserving candidates are selected through a screening-and-interview process. Panels at the Fair & Lovely Foundation shortlisting phase includes noted professionals from various fields, who carefully interviewed these girls across five centres: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Their level of need and desire to excel is taken into account to select the final list of awardees.
