SHRI N.D. Tiwari Inaugurates Hindustan Lever's Rs.130-Crore Personal Care Factory In Haridwar

The 30,000-tonne per annum factory, located in the State Industrial Corporation of Uttaranchal's (SIDCUL) Integrated Industrial Estate, will produce toothpaste, skin cream and lotion, shampoo, face and body wash products. The factory is equipped with latest environment-friendly technologies. Many of the equipment have been developed for the first time in the world jointly by HLL and its suppliers. With full support from SIDCUL and State Government officials, the factory was established in a record 20 weeks, and went on stream in the second half of 2004.
To support the operations, 10 HLL suppliers and ancillaries are also in the process of setting up units, packing operations and warehouses, with an investment of about Rs.90 crores. The company has thus enabled a total investment of about Rs.220 crores in the region.
The HLL factory has 350 employees. The units of the suppliers and ancillaries will employ about another 1,000 people, facilitating creation of 1,350 jobs in all.
In line with the national priority of balanced regional development, most of HLL's investments since the 1980s have been in designated industrial backward areas. Of HLL's close to 80 factories, over 25 are situated in such areas. Since 2001, HLL has set up nine such factories across the country, the latest of which is in Haridwar.
