HUL announces key appointments
04-07-2008 : Mr Sanjiv Kakkar, currently Executive Director Sales & Customer Development of HUL has been appointed Chairman, Unilever Russia, Ukraine and Belarus (RUB). Mr Hemant Bakshi, currently Regional Category Vice President, Skin, South Asia, Unilever, will take over from Mr Sanjiv Kakkar as Executive Director, Sales & Customer Development in the Management Committee. Both the appointments are with effect from September 1, 2008.
Mr Nitin Paranjpe, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HUL, said, “The changes reflect our strong commitment towards leadership development and our tradition of leveraging experiences and synergies of talent across markets. Sanjiv has been with Hindustan Unilever for 24 years and I would like to thank him for his outstanding contribution in leading the Foods business and then the Customer Development function in the last few years. I wish Sanjiv all success in his new assignment. I am confident that Hemant’s appointment will bring further impetus to the company’s growth agenda.”

1)Mr. Sanjiv Kakkar is BA (Economics) and PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad with 24 years work experience. Mr. Kakkar joined the Company in June 1984 and has worked in various Sales and Marketing assignments. His marketing experience spans across categories including Beverages, Personal Products and Oral & Hair Care.
He has also had key stints as Category Head of Oral and General Manager – Sales & Customer Management of Personal Products. He was appointed Vice President – Oral & Hair Care in May 2004. In March 2006, Mr. Kakkar was appointed as Executive Director - Foods and joined the Management Committee on 1st January 2007. Sanjiv was appointed as the Executive Director - Sales and Customer Development in May 2007.
2) Mr Hemanth Bakshi (44) joined the Company in June 1989 and has worked in various sales and marketing assignments spanning across Personal Products and Home Care categories.
He has also held key stints as Business Manager leading one of the new ventures in 2000 and later as Regional Manager – South in 2002. He was appointed as Regional Brand Vice President (FAL and Lifebuoy), South Asia, for Unilever in January 2005. In May 2006, he was appointed as Regional Category Vice President for Skin, South Asia, Unilever.
He passed out from IIT, Bombay, in Chemical Engineering in 1986 and has done his PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad.
