Ensure Health and Safety
Personal Vitality
Personal vitality of all our employees is invaluable for us and is a top priority. We engage in a spectrum of activities to communicate the vitality agenda to make it a top priority for our employees too. We address physical, emotional and mental health issues through company-wide periodical activities like:
- one-to-one discussions
- vitality workshops
- direct mailer campaigns
- onsite poster campaigns
Annual medical checks are the norm where physical health is evaluated and practical advice is dispensed on any health concerns that might be identified. Follow up actions are strictly adhered to.
Counseling facilities are available on request. HUL also has a policy on HIV/AIDS which addresses awareness generation, prevention of transmission and ensures a nondiscriminatory working environment for those afflicted with HIV. Recreational facilities to enhance physical fitness are set up in some locations. Employees are encouraged to participate in physical fitness events such as the Mumbai Marathon, where we sent the largest contingent of participants from a single company in 2008.
Occupational safety
HUL's safety vision is to be an “injury free organisation.” Safety parameters are deeply integrated into our business processes spanning People, Processes, Systems, Technology and Facilities. Safety is driven top-down through direct involvement of the Board and is supported by demonstrated leadership. Prevention is at the core of our safety policy and working safely is a condition of employment.
Our Safety & Health Policy has been rolled out across all units and offices and has been included as a key responsibility in line management and business performance. Ongoing education and training, counseling, prevention, and risk-control program on health and safety adequately address all major and most minor risks at the workplace. Employee involvement ensures swift reporting so that prompt correction can be taken. Audits by management and external agency and reality checks surveys & scorecard ensure that safety is upgraded continuously.
Our safety policy goes beyond the workplace to address road safety and home safety issues of our employees and their families on roads and at home. HUL's Value Life Value Safety (VLVS) Campaign emphasized on all aspects of safety including road safety, home safety, pedestrian safety, cooking safety, etc. This has received tremendous response and demonstrates to us that intended employee engagement on safety is gradually increasing awareness and improving safety behavior.
Our vendors have been provided with checklists on safety and the employees are expected to monitor the vendor behavior on safety while using the services of vendors. Suitable rewards and penalties have been instituted for safety practices.
