Start a little good with plastic waste management
We’re always innovating to improve our products and our environment and are committed to make the world a better place.
Together, with our partners, we are working towards innovative solutions to help address the challenge of plastic waste. As part of Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP), our goal is to globally reduce our environmental footprint by half in the making and use of our products as we grow our business. The USLP commits to ensure 100% of our plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Also, 25% of plastics we use will be sourced from post-consumer recycled sources.
Did you know, India generates more than 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste per day? For a sizeable impact to take place in curbing plastic pollution, it is imperative that all stakeholders – government, industries, communities and individuals – come together to play their part.
As a socially responsible organization, we have always supported policies that drive reduce, reuse, recycling and recovery of plastic. For instance, Pond’s Talc was recognised at the 24th DuPont Global Packaging Award for reducing packaging through innovation. On the other hand, the cartons we use for packaging Dove’s soap bars are plastic-free.
We believe in a well-rounded approach across the value chain based on the 4Rs: “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover.” In the same light, we have initiated several projects to collect, segregate and safely dispose of plastic waste, in collaboration with partners and social entrepreneurs in several cities. Thoughtful partnerships with think-tanks have allowed us to reduce our factory waste while helping us find scalable solutions based on behaviour change. In 2018, we arranged environment-friendly disposal of over 20,000 tons of post-consumer use plastic laminates waste in aggregate through collection and disposal partners in more than 20 cities across India.
Impact: Reduced factory waste by 54% and collected and safely disposed of more than 1,800 tonnes of plastic laminates.

While we focus on the complex changes affecting our packaging, you can focus on simpler things. By simply segregating your plastic waste you can make a big difference to the environment. Only when you segregate your plastic is when it can be recycled. Do what you can, because even a tiny bit makes a big difference.
