Miss India Navneet-Kaur-Dhillon spreads awareness on safe drinking water
Miss India World 2013, Navneet Kaur Dhillon worked with Pureit under the Unilever Pureit Protecting Lives Program to spread awareness about the importance of safe drinking water.
Every year, approximately two million children around the world die of water borne diseases. 400,000 of these deaths occur in India alone. Unilever Pureit Protecting Lives Program aims at ensuring easy access of safe drinking water to millions of people in rural areas where it is a scarcity.
Pureit has associated with Miss India World 2013, Navneet Kaur Dhillon under the Unilever Pureit Protecting Lives Program to spread awareness about the importance of safe drinking water.
Integrated Village Development Program (IVDP) is Pureit’s key NGO partner in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, where Navneet spent a few days with the villagers to promote the cause. Under this program, over 95,000 households of IVDP members have access to safe drinking water.
Commenting on the association, Navneet said, “Winning the Miss India crown has given me a national platform to spread awareness and make a difference to human lives. I am happy to be associated with the “Unilever Pureit Protecting Lives Program”. It was during this program that I came to know about unsafe drinking water being the biggest killer and I would like to spread this message to as many people as I can. I have pledged to take this work forward to as many villages as possible."
Navneet’s work was also recognised by the Miss World pageant. She made it to the top ten for the ‘Beauty with Purpose’ campaign, which aims to recognise social work undertaken by the Miss World contestants from all over the globe.
