Helping Ripu’s dream take shape
Ripu, now a strong, independent 23-year-old, had from a very tender age, known that she had to work hard and earn not just for herself but for her family. Being left by her father and living with a mother who struggled to make ends meet, Ripu knew she had to make the most of every opportunity.
Having completed her graduation from an open University, Ripu enrolled for the Retail Trainee Associate course at the TARA Disha Prabhat Centre of Excellence in Delhi. Like many before her, this programme empowered Ripu and helped her in her career.
A bright student, Ripu successfully completed a certification from the centre and secured an ‘On the Job Training’ opportunity with a retail chain Pantaloons. During the employment drive at the Prabhat Centre, she was selected by Mother Care for their store in Delhi. Working in sales and operation at the store, Ripu now attends to customers and dreams of becoming a Manager one day.
Today Ripu earns Rs. 15,000 a month and contributes 80% of her income to her family. They are even building a new home.
Project Prabhat: Doing well by doing good
Project ‘Prabhat’ (meaning Dawn in English) is a *USLP-linked programme which contributes to the development of local communities around HUL’s key sites including manufacturing units. The key focus areas of ‘Prabhat’ are: Enhancing Livelihoods, Water Conservation and Health and Hygiene. Prabhat has directly benefited over six and half lakh people as of December 2016. Prabhat operates over hundred livelihood and outreach centres offering over 20 courses. Over 17,000 people have been successfully certified and over 12,000 people have already been linked to employment opportunities.
