Lighting up a life
As a child in Doom Dooma, Assam, Apu Moran saw his parents struggle to raise their family. As they faced financial difficulties and other challenges, Apu knew what he wanted to do when he grew up - bring in much-needed income. But without any qualification, skills or training, Apu didn’t have any substantial job or income prospects.
After a friend encouraged him to visit Hindustan Unilever Limited’s Prabhat Livelihood Centre, Apu found himself interested in the ‘Electrical’ course. Despite his initial doubts about job prospects and the value of the course, he took a leap of faith and enrolled for it.
Apu learnt switch board installation, electrical wiring, testing and repairs, among other things. The happy outcome—he got a job in Siliguri, West Bengal, India with a regular monthly income.
Delighted with the positive result, there is no looking back for Apu now. He hopes to learn more about electrical wiring as he paves the path for starting his own workshop one day.
