HUL Wins FICCI Water Award

Hindustan Unilever awarded for the Gundar Basin Project, a water conservation initiative.

FICCI organises the Water Awards annually in association with HSBC Bank. These awards recognise efforts by the Indian industry in the areas of water efficiency, management and its conservation.

Meeta Singh, General Manager Sustainability and Suparna Jain, Manager -Hindustan Unilever Vitality Foundation received the award from Hon. Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi Sheila Dikshit and Dr M.S Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission. Govt. of India on 7th August, 2012 at the awards function in New Delhi.

Other eminent members present at the award ceremony were Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai, Senior Vice President, FICCI and Country Head, HSBC India and Dr. M.S. Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission. Govt. of India.

About the Gundar Basin Project:

HUL’s Gundar Basin Project in Tamil Nadu is a water conservation project initiated by the company in partnership with DHAN Foundation.

Some of the highlights of this project include:

  • Coverage of over 70 villages in Gundar basin, Tamil Nadu spread over 4 districts
  • Coverage of over 13 tank cascades with 250 tanks, serving a total population of 1,50,000
  • Will create the capacity to conserve 11.3 billion litres of water in the project area, increase crop production and generate additional net income for the farmers
