HUL champions climate-resilient sanitation at Mumbai Climate Week 2026

At the recent Mumbai Climate Week 2026 (MCW), we showcased the HUL Suvidha – India's first dedicated climate action platform – demonstrating how scalable, climate-resilient sanitation can accelerate the country's sustainability transition and drive collective impact.

The Suvidha exhibit saw an overwhelming response, with more than 100 visitors from government bodies, academia, think tanks, corporates, climate-tech startups and other development organisations stopping by to learn about the initiative. We were deeply honoured to welcome Shri Acharya Devrat, Governor of Maharashtra, who also visited the exhibit.

Complementing the exhibit, we convened a closed-door workshop – ‘Scaling Climate Resilient Urban Sanitation’ - in partnership with Dalberg. The session brought together delegates from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), HSBC, JSW Foundation, UNICEF and others to discuss how cross-sector collaboration can drive innovation and scale in climate resilient urban sanitation.

Reinforcing the climate action message anchored at MCW, we hosted on ground learning visits at Suvidha centres. These visits gave delegates a closer look at how the model delivers equitable, climate resilient urban sanitation. Notable delegations included:

  • Students from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), for whom Suvidha serves as a live case study in their Urban Sanitation curriculum.
  • Faculty from IIT Bombay also visited Suvidha, to understand its design approach & technical frameworks in addition to explore student learning opportunities.
  • HSBC’s Global Sustainability team who witnessed Suvidha’s inclusive and dignified sanitation services first-hand.

These engagements played a pivotal role in reinforcing Suvidha’s impact and building momentum for wider collaboration across sectors.

About Suvidha

The Suvidha (Convenience) centre model is a unique public-private partnership launched by Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2016 in close consultation with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It is a first-of-its-kind, community hygiene centre that provides access to best-in-class sanitation services to the urban poor. Co-funded by HSBC India and JSW Foundation, there are 23 Suvidha Centres across Mumbai that provide safe and dignified access to clean toilets, drinking water, showers, and laundromat services to the over 5.5 lakh users in the urban community.
